Nikolas Allen is a contemporary pop artist who creates bold, fun, irreverent works of art in various media.
He discovered KISS at age 12 and promptly picked up a guitar. By age 18, he was playing in bar bands throughout the Midwest. He sang and played lead guitar in rock bands for a dozen years and still holds a soft spot in his heart for the glam-o-rific hair-band excess of the 80s.
Nikolas Allen received a degree in Advertising Design and enjoyed a 15-year career in advertising in his hometown of Minneapolis, MN.
At the dawn of the New Millennium, he launched a video production company and began making short films, commercials and music videos. Seven years in, he experienced “filmmaker’s burnout” and switched his focus to visual art (well, the kind that’s not projected on screens anyway).
Nikolas Allen produced a line of graphic apparel for women, and started building a collection of DigiPopFuzzBoxes, or Digital Pop Art mounted to Fuzzy Box frames. His obsession with unique mounting techniques expanded to include chain link fence gates, window frames and masonite panels, and the art moved from digital to a loose, street-art style of painting that incorporates industrial touches and a variety of synthetic and organic materials.
In 2008, Nikolas Allen moved to California and became actively involved in the art scene. In addition to exhibiting and selling his art, he spent 2.5 years as marketing director for Liberty Arts contemporary fine art gallery, and served on the Board of Directors at Siskiyou Arts Museum.
He launched his own marketing consulting business and taught art-marketing workshops to ambitious artists. He decided a book would reach a wider audience than a workshop. In 2013 he published his debut art marketing book, Death To The Starving Artist – Art Marketing Strategies for a Killer Creative Career, which continues to sell to ambitious artists around the world. In 2015, Nikolas Allen published his second book, Heavyweight Marketing – Knockout Strategies for Building Champion Brands, which targets small business owners. He is currently writing his first novel.
Author Nikolas Allen has lived in Greece, Africa, Minnesota, Louisiana, Texas, and New Mexico. He currently resides at the foot of Mount Shasta, a magical, mystical volcano in the far reaches of northern California.
